When I first got to college, I was a fitness wellness major. After I stopped playing hockey, I turned my attention to Olympic weightlifting. I was going to the gym four days per week. I had a huge passion for being healthy and wanted to learn about the body. I decided to apply to Northern Arizona University because they had the Fitness Wellness major and, at the time, it was supposed to be the least science-based major out of all the exercise-related majors. Science was not my strength in high school, and in my first semester, I was in two of the hardest science classes that NAU offered. I spent my time busting my ass going to every tutoring session that was available, studying hours on end, and getting zero time to actually have a freshman experience. Unfortunately, that route did not work out well for me (No pun intended). So, I took a step back to think to myself.
The decision to switch to photography came from a conversation I had with my aunt and uncle when I visited them in Scottsdale one weekend. They challenged me to take a step back and consider what I really enjoyed doing and what really motivated me. I was thinking about how often friends and family told me that when they look at pictures on my phone of a beautiful landscape, a sleek sports car, an urban cityscape, or vacation destination, they raved about them much they liked the pictures and how that they thought I had a good eye. Before then, I didn’t think much of it. I was always very appreciative of the compliments on my photographs, but never thought about pursuing photography educationally or professionally. I came back to school, met with the counselor, and changed my major to Photography. Everything changed for me when I got into my first couple of photography classes at NAU where I completely fell in love, and I haven’t looked back since! Now, all I want to do is learn as much as I can and turn my passion into a career.
For most of the last 4 years, I have worked closely with several photographers, learned as much as I could and honing my skills as a photographer and more recently, as a videography . I have shot products for both image libraries and digital content, created stock photos of landmarks and sites around Flagstaff, and most recently, helped develop digital video content for multiple marketing clients. I’ve also had the amazing opportunity to travel all over the US, Canada, and internationally to places like England, Spain, and Israel. In each place, I took hundreds of pictures of landscapes, buildings, and incredible sunrises and sunsets. Capturing the beauty of the world is my passion and my inspiration and my ultimate goal is to travel the world to capture it through my own eyes. For now, I will leave that as my hobby and will spend the next several years working across several multi-media platforms to develop content and become the best photographer I can become. Please enjoy my work.
